Use the Mapped ICD-9 Details page to view the ICD-9 code and description, and to modify the frequency limit for the ICD-9 code. This frequency limit only applies to the ICD-9 code for the currently selected validation set in the Medical Necessity page.

Modifying Mapped ICD-9 Code Details

1. Copia displays the code details in the ICD-9 and Description fields. You may not edit this information here. You must edit it on the ICD-9 tab in the Medical Necessity administration page. See the Admin: Medical Necessity topic.
2. Enter the frequency limit (in number of days) in the Frequency field.

   When Copia searches for an ICD-9/CPT match, it will first try to find a match that has no frequency specified. It will next look for the match with the least lenient frequency value. Once that value is found, it will look to see if that order choice had been run within the specified period of time. If so, it will flag it as a valid match, but one that violates the frequency limit and requires an ABN. In addition, if you modify the collection date of an existing order, Copia will reevaluate whether or not an ABN is required based on the new date and the frequency limits for the ICD-9/CPT validation set. Copia will note any violations in the frequency section on the ABN.

3. Click Cancel to return to the Medical Necessity page without modifying the ICD-9 code details.
4. Click Save to record the changes and return to the Medical Necessity page with the updated frequency setting for the ICD-9 code.
